Christmas Greetings

Details of our Advent and Christmas services:

Sunday 17th December
6.00pm Traditional service of lessons and carols
An ideal preparation for the days ahead, with familiar carols and readings reminding us once again of the birth of Jesus.

Thursday 21st December
7.00pm Blue Christmas – A service for the longest night
Not everyone feels merry and bright at Christmas time. This will be a quiet and reflective service that we hope can offer comfort and a sense of peace as we journey together towards Christmas.

Sunday 24th December
10.00am Holy Communion
3.30pm and 5pm Children’s Crib Service
As this service has become very busy over the past few years, this year we’re doing the same service twice – it’s an active all-age service for children, their parents, grandparents and carers. Come to the one that fits your diary.
10.15pm Come and Sing Carols
40 minutes of familiar carols.
11.30pm Midnight Communion
The first Eucharist of Christmas. We greet the New Born King.

Monday December 25th
8.00am Holy Communion
A quiet, formal, said service in ‘traditional’ church language.
10.00am Family Communion
An all-age celebration of the good news of Christmas – bring your favourite present.

Monday January 1st 2018
The church will be open from 11:00am to 4:00pm for you to light a candle and say a prayer for the year past or the year to come.

The other Sunday, when we welcomed Kathy Hale as Lay Pastoral Minister, I promised to put a link to the information from the Diocese about LPMs. Well, here it is – the Diocesan web page with a film that we made a few years ago about this very wide-ranging ministry.

  • Suffering with Christ

This Lent the Readers of Peterborough Diocese are offering 40 reflections on Suffering with Christ. You might like to use them to help your thinking during the season. Keep an eye out for the contributions of all three of our Readers and the handiwork of Tom Kirby and his team who produced the series.

  • Memorial Service

We held our Memorial Service last week. It is always a moving occasion.  If you would like to hear my talk you can find it here..

  • Ordination

Last Saturday I was privileged be in the Cathedral for the Ordination of Deacons. It was an occasion that was formal but intimate, grand and personal, exciting and, for me, humbling. One of the people being ordained was Allison Twigg who is spending her curacy at St Peter’s. As her Incumbent I helped her on [...]
